Eduardo Gamboa (1960) is a Mexican composer with a long career. He studied in Mexico with composer Joaquín Gutiérrez Heras and graduated from Trinity College of Music in London, England. Inside his catalog of works, we can find from chamber music until music for symphony orchestra, as well as music for film and theater, of this latter he has won awards such as the Ariel, awarded by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, for the music of the movie Zurdo. His works have been performed in different countries in Europe, Asia, and America.

Within his production, we can find Azules for viola and piano. It is a small piece of short duration, but very beautiful; the work was written in 1996 and dedicated and premiered by the violist María Vdóvina. The piece begins with a short introduction to the piano, followed by the viola, which presents the main theme, which is developed and appears in different octaves towards the end. Although the piece is original for viola, there is also the version for cello.

This beautiful piece is interpreted by violist Oscar Pinedo and pianist Mara Arroyo, from Zacatecas, Mexico; who in recent times have been playing together and organizing activities through virtual platforms, you can follow their YouTube channel "La Tertulia Zacatecana", where every month they offer a concert with guest musicians.

We hope soon to hear from this composer about the viola and continue enjoying his music, as a recommendation we can listen to the piece "Cañambú" for string quartet, which has a very emotional viola solo at the beginning of that piece.

Thank you very much for reading and see you soon!
