It is March and within this month Women's Day, therefore, the following blog posts will be dedicated to violists and composers who are contributing in some way to the promotion and development of the viola in Mexico, from different fields such as pedagogy, composition, interpretation, and research.

The album we are listening to was made under the record label AD Records (Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas) in 2017. It is a special work in which we listen to violas in trios, duos, and solo, with which you can appreciate the timbral potential and sound of the instrument. It is masterfully performed by the violists María Vdovina, Mara Lioba, Viera Borisova, and Alexander Vdovin. This album is on the main digital platforms and in it, we can listen to the works of Russian, Cuban, English, and Israeli composers. Contains the following pieces:

          •   Symphony a Due for two violas, in Memorian by Roman Gary -Fiodr Druzhinin

          •   Sonata for Viola Sola -Leo Brower

          •   Lament for Two Violas -Frank Bridge

          •   Preludio y Tumbao para Dos Violas, Tribute to Bella Bartok -José Loyola

          •   La danza implacable, Viola Trio -Jorge López Marín

          •   Violas Terzet for Tres Violas -Boaz Avni

          •   Triplets Game -Dimitri Dudin

Dr. María Vdovina (Russia) and Dr. Mara Lioba (Cuba), are teacher-researchers in the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (Mexico); for almost twenty years, in which they have carried out various activities not only pedagogical, they have organized forums, colloquiums and in the same way, they have presented research on the viola, which is one of the few publications that have been made in Mexico. These works have been presented in various cities in Mexico and abroad.

          •   Inside their publications we can mention (in Spanish):

          •   "IniciARTE"  An approach to scientific research.

          •   The female projection in Russian music pedagogy in Latin America: tradition and creativity.

          •   An approach to the methodology of teaching the instrument: violin and viola.

          •   Vadim V. Borisovsky and the development of the viola in the international artistic and pedagogical context.

          •   Timbral-sonic possibilities for the viola in contemporary chamber music.

          •   La Zarabanda, plurality, and controversy of a musical genre.

If you want to know and read some of these authors' publications (in Spanish), you can find them at the following link: https://uaz.academia.edu/MJuanCarvajal

It is to be applauded the work that these violists have done not only in interpretation and research, but also with their students, which continues to bear fruit, and they have been an example for many of us.

Thank you very much for reading and listening to.

See you very soon!
